Torres, Aero Flynn play Empty Bottle Thursday

Mackenzie Scott, who performs as Torres, is earning a place aside great contemporary singer-songwriters like Sharon Van Etten.

So seeing her alone is enough reason to catch Scott at Empty Bottle on Thursday.

But head to the Bottle early enough to also see Aero Flynn, the project of Justin Vernon’s pal and former Eau Claire, Wisconsin, resident Josh Scott. After taking a break from music, Scott formed Aero Flynn and now calls Minneapolis home (about 90 miles from Eau Claire). Scott and Aero Flynn join Vernon for the Eaux Claires music fest in July.

Jaill plans new album in June

Milwaukee pop-rock band Jaill is still churning out hook-laden songs. The band’s newest album, Brain Cream, is expected out at the end of June. Listen to a new song, Got an F.

Total Control plays Chicago as part of US tour

Had I discovered Total Control’s album Typical System earlier, it probably would have been a top 10 pick for me last year. If you like Viet Cong’s excellent debut album, you’ll probably like Total Control. The Australian post-punk band plans a short tour of the U.S. in August, including a stop at Empty Bottle in Chicago. Don’t miss this one.
